This tamper handle comes with an option of the following tamper bases :

• flat base
• convex base
• knock flat base
• knock convex base

What is a “knock” base ? – The “knock” bases feature a black silicone ring which enables you to gently tap it against the side of the portafilter to shake the coffee grounds trapped on the sides of the filter basket back into the basket after your first tamp. This enables a second tamp to tamp all the coffee grounds uniformly.

This “knock” ring will ensure that your portafilter and tamper will remain undamaged.
