The Perfect Homemade Latte

Have you ever felt like you are watching a magician when you see a Barista whip together a perfectly crafted espresso drink? With a little bit of steam, a few fancy arm movements and suddenly whoosh.. A perfect creamy layered latte with just a hint of foam appears ready for you to just sit back and enjoy.

Unfortunately, for the ones of us who lives by a budget, those lattes are a very expensive treat, BUT you can pull off the same coffee magic at home! Making the perfect homemade latte takes just a few simple steps. No elaborate machines needed.

You will need:

• Espresso
• Milk (of your choice)

Directions:

Step 1:

First you have to brew up a batch of double strong coffee or if you have an espresso machine, make 1 to 2 shots of espresso. Depending on how strong you like your Latte

Step 2:

Pour the cold milk into a metal steaming pitcher, about a half full.

Step 3:

Release steam from the steaming wand for two seconds to eliminate any residual water.

Step 4:

Dip the tip of the steaming wand into milk and start the jet. As the foam rises and the volume of milk increases, lower the pitcher, always keeping the tip submerged and tilted to create a vortex. Do not mix unnecessarily because let the natural circulating action do the work.

Step 5:

Continue steaming until the milk reaches 65 degrees and its volume doubles. You can check this by using a probe-style kitchen thermometer.

Step 6:

Tap the base of the pitcher firmly on the counter top to compress the foam.

Step 7:

Pour the coffee or espresso into your favorite mug. Keep in mind to leave a little room for the milk and foam. Then drizzle the milk over the coffee. Make sure to hold back the froth with a spoon. Finish by layering the froth over the top of the beverage.

Step 8:

You can enjoy your home made latte just as it is or you can add sugar, vanilla or honey to sweeten it to your taste.  Dust the top with hot chocolate or some cinnamon just for a hint of spice for the more daring type.

Step 9:

The final step is the most enjoyable one. Sit back and indulge into your magical master piece.
